Where Dead Things Grow

In the aftermath of a destroyed world, a grief stricken man tends to the lifeless garden he once dreamed of growing with his wife.

As he prepares to end it all, a stray dog interrupts him.

A fragile bond begins to take root, offering him one last reason to keep digging, and possibly – to keep living.

'Where Dead Things Grow is cinematic to the core and an astonishing achievement from an emerging WA filmmaker with talent to burn. She has the ability to deliver not only a powerful story but one that looks and sounds incredible on screen.' - Ian Hale

Production Crew

Emilie Lowe

Emilie is the director, cinematographer and co-writer of Where Dead Things Grow. Following her success on her feature 'The Canary' she hoped to further test her abilities as a DP/director/editor combo. She really enjoyed the intimacy of this 35 minute short and for allowing herself to experiment with unconventional framing and evocative visual style.

Zach Clifford

Zach Clifford is the actor and co-writer for WDTG. For him, the film was about stepping into the raw silence of grief and showing how even the faintest spark of hope can keep someone alive. In blending grief with hope, he wanted to create something deeply human

Lindsey Sage

As Music Producer and Music Supervisor, Lindsey Sage oversaw the entire music process for Where Dead Things Grow, steering both the creative vision and technical integration of music into the film. She also wrote and produced an original, custom-made song for the film, amplifying its themes and storytelling.

Anwen Borgo

Composer, Anwen Borgo created the original score for Where Dead Things Grow, drawing inspiration from the film’s dark visuals to craft music that supports rather than overtakes the story. She features solo piano, violin, and cello as musical characters within the score: Piano embodies the dog and life, the violin as the temptation of death, and the cello as the loneliness of the main character
